How To Stop Vaginal Odor Quickly

By Lisa Mcdonald

If you would like to know how to stop vaginal odor, there are a number of self help steps you can take. First though bad vaginal odor is very rarely due to poor cleanliness, this possible and obvious cause should be thrown out first.

If vaginal odor is a problem for you, you should make sure that you wash twice daily, using unperfumed soap. Any less than this, and if you're susceptible to this condition, then the odour can develop-any more than this and you are likely to wash away the natural lubricants which help in maintaining the health and self-cleansing properties of the vagina. Always avoid using scented soaps and products on this fragile area as these can strip away natural oils, causing irritation.

Another way to stop vaginal odor is to always wear cotton pants. Cotton allows the area to "breathe" whereas those made from synthesised fabrics can create the damp, warm conditions which are perfect for bacterial expansion. If you have got to wear "fancy" underclothes, try and do so only now and then and use cotton for everyday wear.

A helpful tip which I learned a couple of years ago is to wear a thin panty liner at times when the odor is especially bad. This not only helps to absorb some of the discharge causing the smell but may also be discreetly and easily changed in the daytime. As well as this, if it is simple for you to do so , you may need to take a spare pair of panties with you to let you feel fresher during the day. During your period, it is vital to regularly change your protection, whether this is sanitary towels or tampons. In addition, always remember to remove the last tampon of your period.

An alternative way to prevent vaginal odor is to always use sheaths during intercourse. Fairly often, the change of a sexual partner can bring on a bout of bad vaginal odor and presuming you have eliminated the likelihood of any sexually spread illnesses, it is likely simply to be the body is simply not used to the sperm treats it as a "foreign body", so creating a reaction.

If these simple measures do not work, or you have had a bad odor for over a couple of days, it is exceedingly likely that you have a very common condition called bacterial vaginosis-particularly if you have noticed symptoms like a thin white or gray discharge together with some itching or burning. Bacteria vaginosis is due to an imbalance of the natural pH levels within the vagina which caused an overgrowth of dangerous bacteria. If this is the case, there are a few steps you can take at home to treat the condition.

* Take a warm, shallow bath into which you have added 2 cups of cider vinegar

* Eat some live, natural yogurt as the "good" bacteria in it will also help restore your own used supplies-alternatively, you can dip a tampon in the yogurt and insert it directly into the vagina

* Apply an ice pack that has been wrapped up in a clean towel straight to the genitals for instant relaxing

* Some women find that tea tree oil pessaries are beneficial as these may help to kill off the bacteria as tea tree oil includes natural antiseptic.
