The fact that asthma develops only during childhood has long been established. However, recent developments prove the appearance of adult onset asthma which is common in individuals at 20-50 age groups. Women are more prone to this type than men but no definite explanation was given to support this. Many believe that heredity causes it and still other think environmental factors are the reason. People later found out that this type is somehow connected to allergic and non-allergic factors. Half of the people with adult onset asthma were known to have been exposed to certain irritants like cigarette smoke, dust, mold, and many others. These only show that the environment plays a great role in the advancement of the disease. Since this is natural causes of asthma, it erases the involvement of the environment to the progression of the disease.

Adult onset asthma is commonly seen in women at the age of 20. Hormonal changes seem to have something to do with why women have this condition more than men. Hormonal changes often occur in women especially during pregnancy. Also another event that causes hormone production to fluctuate is a woman's monthly period. These are conditions that allow women to develop asthma.

Even though it has been known to target women more than men, this does not mean men are already safe. There is still heredity, one of the natural causes of asthma and also men are exposed to environmental triggers and allergy-causing elements as often as women are. In addition, one's lifestyle also poses great effect on the progression of asthma.

Adult onset asthma leads to the realization that asthma occurs not only during childhood but during adulthood as well. Be prepared by having an asthma diagnosis ready. Women must be more careful since it is often manifested in females. Lifestyle and environmental modifications won't hurt as well. The danger asthma can bring can be shoved away by knowing the ways of obtaining it.
