The Link Between the Environment and Diaper Rash

By Lanie Robinson

Diaper rash: every new parents nightmare. If your child has ever developed one, then you most likely feel responsible for your babies discomfort. Thankfully, there is something you can do to stop this problem in its tracks and help save the environment at the same time. This may sound a bit outrageous, but it's true and to find out how, keep reading.

The world is full of pollution and chemicals that we use. It's scary sometimes to think about what we are leaving for our children and future generations. Rather than waiting for the government to do something, we can make better choices in our own homes to use safe and environmentally friendly products. Choose to use hemp diapers and you will contribute to this cause and cure your babies diaper rash all at the same time.

How is this possible? Well to begin with, hemp diapers will add less to the piles of garbage we are producing. One child can contribute about 3000 disposable diapers per year, adding to the landfills. Hemp diapers can be used over and over. Another good quality is that hemp diapers only take about 6 months to decompose. Disposable diapers can only used once, and they take about 500 years to decompose. It is really kind of insulting to compare the two choices, with one being obviously superior to the other.

The next important point is how this is related to diaper rash. First thing you should know is that hemp fibers have a natural resistance to bacteria. The second is that they are more absorbent than other materials that are used to make diapers, such as cotton, trees and plastic. Bacteria and moisture are the two major causes of diaper rash, and by using hemp diapers you will drastically reduce the likelihood that your baby will develop this condition.

Now you may think, okay then I can also choose to use cotton diapers. Even so when you compare cotton with hemp, it is important to know that cotton requires a lot of chemicals to be grown successfully; 25% of the pesticides used world wide are used on cotton crops. The hemp plant requires very little to none. Reducing the amount of chemicals added to the soil is a tremendous step toward having a greener planet.

So now you know the connection between the environment and diaper rash, which simply comes down to using hemp diapers. They are natural, compost quickly, reduce garbage and use less chemicals to make. The best and most important result is that your baby will be healthier and you can get some more sleep knowing that you can make a difference.
