Easily Breaking Tungsten

By Chad Stevenson

Wedding rings are meant to symbolize the eternal and everlasting bonds of marriage. When two people marry they make sacred vows to one another which are also symbolized by those same wedding rings. Because so much meaning is behind these small symbols of love and commitment it's important to choose rings that will survive the turbulence of life the same way a marriage should. By selecting tungsten rings, what you are doing is you are choosing rings that won't compare to what marriage means between two people.

People sell tungsten rings with the knowledge that it is very hard and therefore very hard to destroy. This fact is concluded by looking to the Mohs scale of hardness because tungsten rates so high. Though it's true it may as well be false because though tungsten is extremely hard it is also very brittle. Striking tungsten against a hard surface will crack it way before; a gold or silver ring would ever sustain the same damage.

The proof is certainly in the pudding. Buy one for yourself just to test it and you'll see what will happen. Not only will they crack in half when force is applied but because of these same properties you cannot resize tungsten rings. Any try to do it will simply lead to the destruction of that ring. Regardless of the outcome you'll have to get a new one.

On top of all that; it requires specialized pliers to remove tungsten rings in an emergency. If you ever find yourself in the emergency room with a swelled finger you better hope they carry those particular pliers because not every hospital does. Go to the wrong one and you might have a very bad night.

The facts are there to be understood. If you select tungsten rings for your own marriage, select it at your own risk. There is more than enough information out there for anyone to educate themselves as to why you're better off choosing gold, silver or platinum.
