The Effects Of Watery Eyes

By Maryann Boyle

Epiphora which is mostly known as watery eyes, affect a large number of individuals every day. This condition leads one to produce too many tears. The influx of tears spread all over the face of the subject as though one is crying. This is because there is usually an insufficient tear film flow.

Inflammation and irritation usually brings tears to the eyeballs. Tears are vital because they nourish and lubricate the human eye. Moreover, each time an individual blinks, the eyeballs are washed by tears formed by the lacrimal glands found in the upper eyelids thereby preserving a good tearing.

Dry eye syndrome is one of he causes of epiphora. It causes the human eye to become really dry and as a result the eyeballs become itchy and uncomfortable. The lacrimal gland will then receive the impulse and will carry out the response by producing so many tears that in the long run overcome the innate drainage system of the eye.

Allergic reactions caused by allergens such as grass and pet dander are also responsible for epiphora. This is because the reactions usually causes the eyeballs to turn red thus becoming irritating and itchy. Burning is also another effect of such a reaction. This will eventually prompt the production of tears in excessive amounts leading to watering.

The human body is designed in such a way that it would be implied to respond to an eye infection by producing tears in excess quantities. This not only lubricates the eye but also cleanses away microorganisms and any other unwanted discharge. Irritants are also in the list of components that lead to epiphora and they include eyelash, dry air, smoke just to mention but a few.

Most people would think that watery eyes is a cause of eye distress but this is not so as it is only a symptom. People therefore need not to worry unless the symptom is accompanied by pain or redness. Remedies can be found over the counters and they include artificial tears, eye drops among others. Blinking regularly, wearing sunglasses to minimize irritation from the scorching sun and drinking plenty of water are some of the ways that help in maintaining a healthy tearing.
